Its getting crowded Under the Table!
If you are looking for help with building a fence, painting a house, a new roof, yard work, moving and call on one of the ads on Craig's List or flyers posted on grocery store bulletin boards, you will likely discover as I that many Oregon service contractors have joined the Illegal Aliens and found its better for them if they stop buying insurance, stop paying for a business license and work for Cash Under the Table.
Life suddenly gets easier for the Gringo contractor. No more government rules and regulations that cost them time and money. No more employees just partners, no more Diversity Training, no more Government Equal Opportunity Posters to hang on the office walls, no more payroll deductions to submit, no more bookkeeper and tax person to hire and that is just the start.
As a home owner, all we need do is call a few references, buy the needed materials and enjoy dealing with a service provider that knows the purpose of a tape measure and can speak your language to boot.
The only problem I can foresee is soon we will need a Bigger Table.
