"Caution, entering a High Spin Zone"

In the minutes approaching 8:00 AM on this sleepy Tuesday morning I can hear the Sirens screaming as Police scramble to a large South Salem Grocery store where its reported four people are attempting to strong-arm money from customers on the parking lot.

This required several officers to break away from another location where they were already involved in a tense situation leaving others to deal with what sounded as a problem that was equal or possibly of more serious concern.

All this while other officers were investigating an attempted rape at a motel where they had asked management for room numbers and names of all Hispanic guests.

Then I see this line in a print news story about how overall crime is Down in Salem.

"Salem also showed a large increase, but those statistics are misleading, Salem police Lt. Bill Kohlmeyer said. Salem incorrectly reported its third-degree assaults in a lesser category in 2003. After correcting that in 2004, both the assault category and the overall violent-crime category appeared to skyrocket." http://159.54.226.83/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051018/NEWS/510180335/1001

Looks as Salem needs an addition to the "Entering Salem" sign. That would be "Caution, entering a High Spin Zone."
