What's The Big Hurry?

Headline: Oregon seeks $2.1 billion for high-speed rail

Once upon a time Oregon was home to a considerable manufacturing, resource harvesting and industrial economy, when time was-of-the-essence and speedy delivery of everything from raw materiel's to finished goods was most important.

However, today Oregon has given up those efforts of income generation and become a consumer state where the biggest Need for Speed is getting to sales event at the Mall or to Grandma's birthday party on time.

So why would we need to spend $2.1 billion to get anywhere in a hurry?
