Oh brother!

Or should I say, Oh Big Brother!

I have been asking myself, what's behind the Big push for City government's desire to provide all residents with Free Wi-Fi (wireless) Web connections?

That Wireless Cloud idea looks awfully dark and suspicious. They never gave us Free TV cable or telephone service. So why the change of heart?

Then I came to me! Communication for Government Services as with a Wi-Fi grid there would no longer be any need for Police, Fire, City government (and the like) to continue using those 50's style Radio systems. Palm-top anyone?

Just think of how a Police department would be able to send in and out digital down-loads to and from portable (Wi-Fi) hand-held or vehicle mounted devices in the field and speak openly with each other without fear of taxpayers and other criminals listening in to their conversations. UPS already does something like it!

Now wouldn't that be dandy?

But then, think of how easy it would be for the Police and/or Building inspectors to hang remote Wi-Fi video-cams wherever they can find a hiding place (power pole, roof top or traffic light) and either live view or digitally record all what's going on.

Now, lets mix in the City having control of the system, add a few GPS toys with Google Earth and there would no place for taxpayers and/or revolutionaries to hide.

Me thinks the Cable guy (person) deserves the job. How bout you?
