FEMA vs. Wal-Mart

Tonight, cable news folks are comparing how Wal-Mart successfully responded to the Gulf Coast needs immediately after the Hurricane disasters, whereas FEMA failed in the same effort. Hello!

I can name the locations of three Wal-Mart warehouses. I can also well understand how they could easily redirect their distribution efforts to an emerging need. Its as easy as loading the trucks and directing the drivers to head South. Likely as not, some of the same trucks and drivers that were headed there anyway.

What I can't understand is who would ever expect we taxpayers to maintain like warehouses, filled with like inventories and kept ready to respond with trucks and drivers, in like fashion as Wal-Mart.

If that's the case we better warn the Chinese as they will need to supply us with those like inventories and to vacuum pack everything as it may remain in storage for many, many years.
