The Oregon State Department of Education reports
And we find that two were on the list last year -- Alliance High School of Portland and McKay High School in Salem.
Alliance being an small Alternative High School that provides counseling to special needs students. Troubled kids, and that makes sense to find it on the list.
Whereas, McKay in NE Salem (Mexalem) is a conventional High School with it only being unique in Embracing Diversity to the extreme. It does this withhaving two student bodies under one roof. One that predominantly Speaks Spanish and the other Speaking English.
Have any doubts as to the divisions just travel in the area of McKay HS on Lancaster Drive NE most any weekday afternoon and observe the two separate student groups gather at cross walks and City bus stops. The area has become a place where two societies share the same dimension and where conflicts often result in violent out-breaks.
Now, is there any question why McKay is the only school in Oregon to earn a spot on the list for the forth year in a row?
