Just what we don't need!
Headlines proclaim the new $40 million Kroc (Salvation Army) Center will give Salem's economy "a shot in the arm."
Yes, but is that shot of a Legal Drug?
A new $40 million dollar Salvation Army Center is all well and good, but Salem doesn't need another facility to draw more people who are in need.
We already have several new Goodwill and St. Vincent DePaul stores along with many other non or not-for-profit service organizations in town and as it was reported in the StatesmanJournal newspaper the other day, Salem has become a Mecca for the downtrodden and to such degree the IRS recognizes the population's income disparity with surrounding communities.
But with Portland welcoming the wealthy then its only fair that Salem become the refuge for the refuse.
That will bring a Balance of Diversity to the state with it several degrees of separation.
