What a difference a Recession Makes

I enjoyed lunch as my favorite Chinese restaurant in NE Salem (Mexalem) today and for the first time in several plus years I didn't need to share space with any large groups of Screaming Spanish Speakers and their many out-of-control children.
Golly, that was a most pleasant and a refreshing change.

Perhaps we have turned the corner.

Headline: Tide of illegal immigrants now being reversed

And, another headline tells us that Employment Costs are increasing as well as the number of persons Employed has risen slightly and that in an overall declining economy.
What we are not seeing or hearing is any mention of how the story lines are related and the points are resulting from a shrinking Sub-Culture Economy fostered by the Illegal Aliens.
Doing business off-the-books and under-the-table is becoming less common.
Wait until the Governments begin to enjoy the increase in tax incomes as then I suspect the News stories will take a different spin.

Sign of the Times but not in Spanish

Visited the Target store in NE Salem today in hopes of scooping some sale items, only to discover they were sold out with no re-supply until next Spring.
But while there I noticed some changes and that being Two Special Parking Spaces designated for Very Special Guests.
Both Spaces are signed as: Police Parking Only

What's to be conveyed on the conveyor?

RE: Reusable Grocery Bags

How will grocery shoppers react when they discover Sal Monella (the Pepper Picker) in the check-out line . . . ahead of them?
Most grocery retailers in Oregon just rid themselves of handling drippy, smelly bags of empty beer and pop cans and now we are to Embrace yet another contamination exposure that's been painted Green.

All we gotta do!

Is to educate the Illegal Alien Day Workers.
That in how if they become Injured while working for a Gringo home owner/contractor they can return to Mexico (after the lawsuit) where they can enjoy a leisurely retirement.
The key to success is to claim an injury bad enough to require an Ambulance transport and to gather lots of witnesses and both to document the occurrence.
They don't need to bleed as a painful back injury will do the trick. That along with a good Chiropractor and pay-day is not far away.
No insurance company would want a Jury Trial where they need to defend the actions of a Fat Cat Gringo who was ripping off a Poor Immigrant who was only trying to feed his seven kids.
A bailiff would need a Big wet and dry vac to collect all the tears shed during the telling of that story.
Not to sweat finding an attorney as they will find the Illegal or the Government will provide them one along with interpreters.
I say, lets use the same tools to kill their goose as what killed our gander.

Absolutely Amazing!

That how Oregon's economy is Flatter than a Fox on a Freeway with High Tech employers dropping workers 1400 at a pop, Beer Distributors are cutting back on staff, Hospital emergency departments are reducing nurses hours, Office people are working three day weeks and yet our Nursery Growers tell us they need every one of their Illegal Aliens employees or we will all suffer great economic loss.
Without the Illegals the Nursery Growers tell us they will need to automate much of their operations and at great expense to them and their East Coast customers.
Well now, we have computer operated surgical devices that can remove my appendix yet dropping dirt in a flower pot is unthinkably complicated and expensive.

Wouldn't we all love that?

Electing a President that could and would Clean House in DC and restore our faith in government.
Wow, imagine that.
Regrettably, I don't see John McCain doing that and I am confident Obama will lead us into the slaughter house.
Divine intervention, now please.

Thinking Outside the Box

If Portlanders were truly committed to Bicycling they would remove the asphalt from all secondary streets, re-process it for the Oil content and return the streets to the original gravel.
Now, is that Green or what?
Not only would that drastically reduce the storm water run-off that flushes out the combined sewers it would eliminate the need for the Big Pipe which could then be used to house the homeless or as a passenger propelled subway.
There is no limit to ideas once you start thinking Progressively.

Is Weyerhaeuser hiring?

Business News Headline

Hynix Semiconductor to close its Eugene memory-chip plant.
Gone will be more than 1,100 regular employees and 300 contractors.
Do you suppose they sold the Carbon Credits resulting from the closure?
That could help cover the cost of moving the plant to China.

What do I care

If all the Mexican Bakeries and the Mexican Grocery Stores and the Mexican Car Dealers and the Mexican Restaurants and the Mexican Nightclubs and the Mexican Taverns and the Mexican Clothing Stores in Oregon and the Landlords who cater to Mexicans go broke along with the Nursery Grower and Vineyard Owner employers of Illegal Aliens because they lost their customers, tenants and staff they knew full well primarily consisted of Criminals?
I don't visit, shop at or support those businesses nor do they support me in any way shape or form.
Now I can appreciate the benefits resulting from the millions of Illegal Aliens who have Not Assimilated into our society as their leaving will have little negative impact on our way of life and economy.
As it is now any loss of Tax Income will be offset by our needing less Tax Supported services and that is a trade I see as worth the effort.

Millions of Dollars Every Year

Are wasted by Police in Oregon as a direct result of Illegal Aliens playing name games as Officers work to identify who they are dealing with.
This is becoming more of a problem every day as odds are that whatever phony name the Illegal Alien gives an Officer, there is likely an outstanding warrant for someone of that name, somewhere in the US.
Then the burden again falls on the Officer to determine who "they don't" have in custody. Proving a negative is not all that easy.

Need we say more?

What makes me think?

The Dems want two more economic stimulus payments gifted to who they identify as Deserving Citizens (one in Q4 2008 and the other in Q1 2009) for the purpose of Creating Jobs.
What, are they going to contract with Newspaper publishers to deliver the checks and will they sub-contract that work to some State Agency who uses Mentally Handicapped clients under the guise of a Job Training program?
Or, will underemployed Building Inspectors be given the task which will allow them to discover income generating Code Violations as they tour residential areas?
It can happen.

Wow! Honesty. How can I deal with that?

Veejay, who is working in 800 customer service at Vivitar explains point-blank, the problem I'm having with my new Vivitar Video Camera results from Issues (problems, glitches, screw-ups) with the software they included with the camera and there is nothing he can offer until those Issues (problems, glitches, screw-ups) are resolved (corrected).
He added my name to the call-back list.
I thanked Veejay for his help and explained I would be glad to give them some time to correct the "problem" and that simply for their honesty.

Who would have ever thought that Bad news was refreshing?
Viva Vivitar!

All the more reason!

With all the clashes between Bicyclists and Motorists it seems that I now have even more reason to avoid the City of Portland.
To think that for many years I considered Portland my home and my most favorite City.
But that was before the Neil Goldschmidt became Mayor and set about to execute the Socialists plan to remake the city into a Kinky Utopia for wealthy New Yorkers.
The next concern is with the result of Neil then becoming Governor of Oregon and the seeds he then planted to expand Portland's Pervertedness and to infect the rest of the State.
Salem can't be all that far behind.

They might be stupid

Today, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke told a congressional committee of the need for Banks to reach out to Immigrants and engage them with languages and dialog that will bring them to enjoy the benefits offered by their financial institutions.
Oh yea, they can't wait to have their income taxed just like the Gringos.
They might be stupid but sure as hell they are not all ignorant.

Everybody is Getting on the Bandwagon

Strawberries at my local seasonal sales stand last year sold for $2.00 a box (or hallock/pint) or so the help there reminded me.
Two weeks ago they were selling for $2.50 a box. Nice jump.
Today, the same stand and with the same quantity of Strawberries on display and they were selling for $4.00 a box.
Wow, that new improved price must include a national Exxon Tax?
They explained the price increase with "its getting towards the end of the season" and that fact was obvious in the quality of the berries on display.
Quality down, prices up. Didn't GM, Ford and Chrysler do that back in the 70's with help from the UAW and the Equal Opportunity folks?
Guess the increases are the result of higher fuel costs just as I found at Walgreen's where in a week the price of Chapstick shot up by 25%.
I'm still keeping my eye on the price of Elmer's glue as it is going to be brutal.

Tony Snow, former Bush press secretary, dies of cancer

Thanks Tony for all the Good you brought into our world.
I have always thought of the DC press corps as being much like a bunch of Pitt Bulls that will lick your hand one minute and tear out your throat the next.
And there we saw Tony at the podium, looking more like a Golden Retriever that could only see the best of everybody and truly loved being there.
God blessed us with your presence.

The way I see it!

If our nations largest mortgage lenders Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are slipping below the water line then my best bet is . . . many of Oregon's Nursery Growers are Burned Toast.
Headline: Large nursery catches fire near Keizer
So maybe I'm a little late for that gamble.
Guess we will need to let some of those Highly Trained nursery workers find their way home.
Perhaps some Arrow Signs might help.

Please Describe Criminal Negligence for me

The Portland area news folks are hammering on the story of 14 year old Cole Ortega of Bend, Oregon who last weekend was hit by a Dory Boat while Surfing at Cape Kiwanda in Pacific City.
The story spin seems to be favoring the young lad and about his having the boats propeller severe his left arm and the subsequent re-attachment of that arm by OHSU surgeons. Golly, he got lucky and the innocent Dory operator lost big time.
Tonight, I saw on TV news where Cole's family have provided news media sources with pictures of him doing as what they explained . . . what he loved most. I guess these were to twang our heartstrings as to what poor Cole may have lost because of that nasty old gas burning Dory Boat.
The first picture is of Cole on a snowboard when the bottom of his board is totally visible and where he was silhouetted by tree tops in the background. I think that what thrill seekers call . . . Grabbing Big Air. The boy is Born to Fly!
The next was of Cole again Grabbing Big Air and this time on a mountain bike and in both scenes it looks as he may have been involved in a serious competitive event. Isn't that a number vest Cole is wearing?
Well now, to me it seems as Cole is a Thrill Seeker and he parents are supportive of his activity. So, is it any surprise that Cole would surfboard in a known and signed Dangerous Area reserved for Dory Boat landings? No surprise here.
I also don't think my parents would have allowed me at the ripe old age of 14 to Grab any more Air than what I could find from a leap off the front porch and if they had ever seen me with a blue sky background while on my bicycle, I would have lost the use of that mode of transportation for over a month.
As I recall several years ago there was another young teen from Bend whose neck was broken in a Competitive Snowboarding event. He too was wearing a number vest. The last I heard he was a severe quadriplegic and requiring nurses care 24 hours a day and even when he is attending public school. Didn't they hold a fundraiser to help cover his medical costs. I wonder who is picking up the tab today for all that and why was he doing what he was doing on that fateful day?

Is that a Threat or a Promise?

Headline: Loss of Undocumented Workers (Illegal Aliens) could cost Oregon
The Coalition for a Working Oregon who I see as sponsored by the Oregon Association of Nurseries, threatens that Oregon could suffer Great Economic Harm if the Proposed Department of Homeland Security "No Match" Immigration Rules are enforced.
They claim it could cost Oregon up to $17.7 billion however Dr. Jaeger with Oregon State University who came up with the number went on to say the negative effects of enforcing the law would be felt in the years to come. Ah hah!
I can only wonder how much of this projected and highly exaggerated loss of $17.7 billion is found in employment of Government workers who provide services or incarcerate many of the Illegal Aliens or with those businesses that are owned by out of state (or country) organizations that sell their products out of state?
Spare me the story about other impacts as other than the slum lords who rent them garbage grade housing I see much of the Illegal's incomes are either sent to their homes outside of the USA or spent at stores that cater to those of their third world culture.
Yes, I expect that Sears, Kmart and some other retailers will suffer losses however I see our being able to go about our lives again as Free US Citizens well worth the effort.

The last of the Little Guys!

This recently closed Union Oil Gas station was one of the last few Independent Retail Gas Dealers remaining in the state.
Now, what do you suppose killed the business?
#1 Big oil putting the squeeze on the owner who was running in competition to corporate owned stations?
#2 The insurance costs went through the roof?
#3 Ever increasing environmental regulations became to costly?
#4 Couldn't find responsible, non-drug using, minimum wage pump jockeys that spoke English?
#5 All of the above?

In an effort to Save Gas

Lets all turn our Headlights Off During Daylight Hours. Its not worth it any more.
Hey, if you die in a head-on collision you will Save even more Gas. Think of that!
Do you really believe that having your headlights on during the day will have any impact (play on words) on Jose, Pedro or Rudolpho when in their drunken driving state they effort to kill us in a surprise head-on?
Get real, they can't see past their hood let alone see your headlights.
We would probably be ahead if ODOT had a Booze Delivery Service. This would help by allowing Jose, Pedro or Rudolpho to stay off the road, get stupid drunk at home, beat their wife or girlfriend, stab a neighbor (if they have time) and not endanger we taxpayers who are supporting their extended family.
It works for me.

First things First!

If as a Nation we are to reduce our consumption of gasoline we First need for the TV News people and the Auto Manufacturers to reverse their positions and work to convince all the Moms that keeping their children Entirely Safe from all dangers is an impossibility and transporting their kids in a 6000 pound SUV with 6-way air bags and the ability to blow through a 10 foot snow drift at 70 MPH, without slipping a wheel, isn't absolutely necessary for their survival.
However, that doesn't mean they can give up their DOT approved safety seats that only Paramedic/Fireman Fred is able to install properly.
Yes by golly, kids can survive in smaller vehicles.

Salem's Red Light District is a Hit!

Since April 1, 2008, the beginning of the Photo Red Light program, the Salem Police Department has issued 1223 red light citations at the intersection of 25th St SE and Mission St SE.
That is just One intersection.
I see that number as confirming my suspicion the driving public had become accustomed to Law Enforcement Not Enforcing red light violations.
When was the last time you saw a Police Officer watching an intersection?
Its the old trick called "Create a Need a Fill It."
Please note: My complaint lies with City Management that directed Patrol Officers to find other things to fill there day.

Brace Yourself!

Chapstick just went up nearly 20% in 30 days.
Yep, petroleum base alright.
I shudder to think what $150. crude with do to the price of nylon shoelaces.

Pow!

That Flash I just saw wasn't Superman nor was it Superwoman.
No, it was a Meter Reader with Portland General Electric (power utility) who was running their residential route at an almost blinding speed.
I'm certain their being young and quite obviously physically fit contributed to their reasoning to move quite so quickly.
However, I'll bet that the fact she is good looking, wearing shorts and gifted with Long Blond Hair was a far greater motivator.
